Easter Bunny spreads some cheer

Local volunteers made some very special deliveries over the Easter weekend.

In Tonagh, Knockmore, and Ballymacash, the Easter bunny, together with some very able helpers, delivered Easter eggs, tasty treats and goodie bags to excited children.

In Tonagh and Knockmore, Alderman Amanda Grehan organised for some goodies to be delivered, which were kindly donated by local retailers and the Lisburn Foodbank.

Members of Tonagh and Knockmore Community Associations helped give out the Easter eggs to children and cup cakes to older residents.

In Ballymacash, the Community Forum, a Lisburn group consisting of community groups, churches, schools, sports clubs, PSNI, elected representatives and local businesses has come together with a co-ordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Easter Saturday the group delivered over 1000 Easter parcels to children and families in the Ballymacash area.

Community Worker Valerie Douglas said: “I believe we learned today that community spirit is still there 100%, despite the difficult situation we are in.

Volunteers were out on the road from 10 am - 4.30pm working tirelessly, and with a smile and a well wish for everyone.

“We are made up of every group and organisation in the area, including Ballymacash Regeneration Network, Ballymacash Rangers FC, Windmill Stores, Ballymacash Sports Academy, Ballymacash Cultural Awareness Project, to the churches in Ballymacash.

“Our team of volunteers are made up of people from every walk of life. From Pride of Ballymacash Flute Band, ABOD and Alderman Amanda Grehan.

“The Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh joined us along with Paul Givan MLA.

“We are a community that has come together and are working together for the community.”
