People paid £250k for Irish schools

THE people of Northern Ireland forked out over £250k renting Irish schools in the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) over the past decade.

The bill in the west was £273,979.48 - the third highest total in Northern Ireland.

The Education Minister John O’Dowd provided the details of the expenditure in response to an Assembly Question.

“I can advise that the Education and Library Boards have paid a total of £1,275,150.61 in the last 10 years for the renting of premises for Irish-medium schools,” he stated.
