Working together we can clean up our city

I write in support of the writers of two letters that appeared in last week’s Ulster Star re Dog Fouling.

Since being elected to the Council I have been trying, with the help of Council Officers, to clean up our streets caused by dog fouling.

It is time for the general public to do more.

Over the past few months there have been over 70 complaints lodged by the general public with the Council by people who have witnessed dog fouling but are not willing to tell on their neighbours etc.

If the dog wardens catch someone letting their dog foul and they do not clean it up, the Council would have issued a warning letter in the past, but this is not working.

Now is the time for action and I will be calling for a campaign by Lisburn City Council to get tough on those who allow dog fouling and ensure they are issued with on the spot fines.

But I am also calling on the general public to help us by naming those involved. Let us all work together to be proud of our City and make it a pleasant place to live and visit.
