Well-drilled local ploughmen win awards

Kilroot Ploughing Society chairman Wilson Holden announced the award winners of the 105th annual match at the presentation dinner in the Knockagh lodge, Greenisland.

Jennie Currie handed over the silverware to winners including Champion of the Field, Saintfield’s Andrew Gill.

Local winners were Marc Gamble - John McCready Perpetual Cup, for the best maintained vintage tractor; Ian Simms - Beattie Marcus Perpetual Cup, for the best work by a competitor residing in Co Antrim; Ian Simms - Isaac Hay Memorial Perpetual Cup, for the best work by a member of Kilroot Agricultural Ploughing Society;

The music for the dance which followed was by Paul McNeilly and son.

Marc Gamble, Ballynure; Allen McAnally, Ballyboley; and Raymond Clifford, Larne, were amongst the placings at the annual match organised by the Coleraine and District Tractor Ploughing Society at Aghadowey.

Marc was second in the Vintage Lift Novice Class; Allen fifth in the 12-inch

world style open, and Raymond fifth in the Vintage Lift Senior.

Carrickfergus man Harold Simms and Wilson Holden, Killyglen, were among the judges.

Two times European Vintage Champion Ian Simms won the 12-inch World Style class at the 70th

Hillsborough Ploughing Society match in Aghalee.

The Kilroot Agricultural Ploughing Association and Ballyeaston Vintage Tractor Club, member received his silverware at the annual presentation dinner dance held in Lisburn Bowling Club.

Other local award winners were Mark Taggart, Cogry, Doagh, who was second in the Vintage Senior Class, and Allen McAnally, Ballyboley, third in the 12-inch world style.

Robin Jenkins, Ballyboley and James Adair, Ballycorr, Ballyclare, were class winners at the annual match organised by Ballycastle and District Tractor Ploughing Society at McNaughton’s Farm, Bushmills.

Robin topped the Vintage Intermediate Class, while James was the winner of the Vintage Allen McAnally was runner-up in the 12-inch world style; Steven Weatherup, Magheramorne, third in the Vintage Intermediate; and Frankie Davidson, Raloo, second in the Vintage Lift.
