Don’t hide behind hype and spin

CAN I commend ‘Unemployed’ for what I would describe as a very thought provoking letter in the Star last week.

The content of the letter drove a horse and cart through the hype and spin we witness in many statements emanating from public representatives.

Sadly, today we live in a world of all spin and no substance again totally illustrated by another contributor to the who is still waiting for Lisburn Council to publish, under the old legislation, how many on-the-spot fines were issued during the last 12 months for dog fouling.

In conclusion, as if to prove the various points I refer to ‘Disappointed Small Business Owner’s’ letter on businesses forgotten (April 6, 2012).

This illustrates, and it is borne out by a city councillor, the total exclusion of certain areas of the city in an events guide catalogue. However, I am at a loss to understand why Lisburn City Council don’t control such promotion.

Excuse my ignorance but who is Lisburn City Management? Are they part of the council? Or are they a charity shop? And who funds them?

Like ‘Unemployed’, in this severe economic climate people are catching on, spin, photographic opportunities are all meaningless without substance. The excellent comprehensive coverage in the Star’s letter page has enabled readers to form views and which proves hard pressed rate payers can no longer be taken for granted.
