North Coast basks in sweltering heat

The North Coast is the place to be as the heatwave continues.

Forecasters confirmed that Wednesday was the warmest day of the year so far.

Northern Ireland’s temperatures peaked at a sweltering 26.6C in Castlederg, Co Tyrone, exceeding the previous high of 26C in Portrush, earlier this week.

Temperatures across NI have been mid-20s for most of this week, well above the average for this time of year.

Forecaster John Wylie told UTV: “The North Coast is the place to be where temperatures could exceed 26C. It’s always warmest towards the west and north west in Northern Ireland and inland from the coast.”

The rest of the week is expected to stay settled with warm weather and plenty of sunshine.

However, the outlook for the weekend isn’t quite so good with temperatures set to cool down and some rain showers due to fall on Saturday.

The Met Office said: “Friday staying sunny and hot with isolated showers. Turning cloudier on Saturday with some showery rain. It will be mainly dry and bright on Sunday though less warm”.
