New traffic lights installed at busy junction

NEW traffic signals at the junction of the Doagh Road and Old Carrick Road near Mossley are due to be operational before the end of this week, according to Roads Service.

At the time of going to print on Tuesday (April 30), the traffic lights still weren’t in use, but a DRD Roads Service spokeswoman said the switch-on was imminent.

Speaking to the Times on Wednesday, April 24, she said: “While the traffic signals have been installed, the vehicle detection loops need to be cut so that the traffic signals will operate effectively. This work is programmed for today (April 24).

“Once this has been carried out, engineers can commence the process of commissioning the traffic signals, with the intention that they will be switched on and operational by the middle of next week.”

The spokesperson added: “Staff from our Traffic Information and Control Centre will be monitoring the junction to determine queue lengths and identify any delays. However, it is likely to take a number of weeks before the junction runs at its optimum efficiency.

“Roads Service would like to thank road users and local residents for their patience and cooperation during this work.”
