New Housing manager takes up post after former boss retires

OWEN Brady has been appointed the Housing Executive’s new District Manager for the Lisburn Antrim Street District in place of Jill England, who recently retired.

Mr Brady began his career in the Housing Executive in 1974, and worked in District Offices in East and South Belfast. He then worked in the Headquarters IT Department for eight years from 1990, before moving to the Lisburn Antrim Street District Office where he spent five years as the Assistant District Manager. Mr Brady then moved to Downpatrick as the District Manager before spending the past four years as the District Manager in Newtownards.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Brady said: “I want to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive housing service throughout the Lisburn City Council area and to continue the close working relationship that the previous manager, Jill England, maintained with tenant, community and elected representative.

“I will be working with the District Office staff to deliver excellent housing services to the people of Lisburn, and I look forward to working with community, voluntary and other statutory agencies, to help build sustainable communities throughout Lisburn.”

After 40 years work with the Housing Executive, Jill England’s retirement was marked by a presentation to her at the District Office by Stephen Graham, the Housing Executive’s South East Area Manager. Mrs England’s commitment to housing in Lisburn was reflected by the large number of her current and previous work colleagues, public representatives and community groups who attended the event.

In thanking Mrs England for her dedicated service during the past 40 years, Stephen Graham recounted her career in the Housing Executive which began in 1971 in the Lisburn Office in Knockmore Square.

After a number of promotions that took her to the District Offices in Lurgan, Portadown and Banbridge as well as the South Area headquarters in Craigavon, Mrs England spent seven years District Manager in Portadown during which time she was awarded the MBE for services to housing in Northern Ireland. In 2004 she returned to Lisburn as District Manager in the Lisburn Antrim Street District.

Henry Phillips, representing the Lisburn Housing Community Network, thanked Mrs England for her work with local community groups to help improve the quality of life for people living in Housing Executive estates throughout Lisburn.

Reflecting on her career in the Housing Executive, Mrs England paid tribute to the members of staff that she has worked with and the many friendships that she developed over 40 years. She wished her colleagues well in the future as they face the continuing challenge of providing social housing for those in most need.
