MLA McClarty concerned at Uni Sports Centre funding loss

ULSTER Unionist MLA David McClarty has expressed his concern at the loss of funding for a Sports Centre at the University of Ulster's Coleraine campus.

Our exclusive story last week revealed that the University had applied for 6.9m assistance under the Strategic Capital Investment Fund.

“Unfortunately, the Executive's proposed revised spending plans for 2010/11 have resulted in 8.1m being taken out of the fund, which means that only 2.5 million of funding is now available for Sports Centre,” said Mr McClarty.

“In such circumstances, it is up to the University to decide to proceed or not on the basis of the reduced funding available.

As everyone is aware, these are difficult economic times and difficult decisions will have to be made by everyone.”
