Mayor thanks local people for help during snow crisis

THE Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, has extended his thanks to everyone who assisted neighbours, farmers, friends and those in the wider community of Lisburn, during the recent prolonged period of severe weather conditions.

“Reports are now coming through of the scale of farm animal losses and we understand this is a task of no small significance,” said Alderman Leathem.

“The unprecedented snowfall brought with it kindness, thoughtfulness, concern and a desire to reach out a helping hand to those in need.

“We continue to think of those people who have lost many of their farm stock at a time when the agricultural community are normally looking forward to the start of a new farming year and it will take a long time for them to come to terms with this loss.

“On behalf of Lisburn City Council I would like to pay tribute to everyone who rallied around and helped in some way during this period.

“This includes the local community, someone who made sure their neighbour has a hot drink and heat in the home, Council crews who collected bins and made sure funerals could take place, staff in Power NI and in the Departments for Agriculture and Regional Development and their contractors who worked long hours in horrendous conditions, local farmers who helped each other and anyone else that I have not specifically referred to, a very large thank you.” concluded the Mayor.
