Mayor launches annual bursary

The Mayor’s Annual Bursary Scheme aimed at young residents of the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area wishing to pursue courses or projects in the areas of arts, sport and community service development, and funded by Coca-Cola, is now open for applications.

Those interested in applying must be aged between 14 and 21 on April 1, 2015.

It is expected that the opportunities being supported would not normally be available at a local level; and will improve individual performance and personal development in the applicant’s chosen field of arts or sport.

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “I am delighted that Coca Cola is supporting this bursary competition which will be administered for the first time by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

Through sport and the arts over the years, both Lisburn and Castlereagh have produced many highly talented individuals; and the council will be delighted if we can offer support to young athletes, aspiring coaches or arts performers to take their interest and skill to a whole new level.”

Sarah Smith, PR Coordinator, Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland added: “As a company with a long standing heritage in the local communities, we are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of those living locally.
