Man was abusive atthe hospital

A man told a police officer called to Coleraine's Causeway Hospital: 'I will spit on your mother's grave' and also made comments of a sexual nature.

Jordan Hazlett (21), of Distillery Mews, Coleraine, was given a three months jail term, when he appeared at Coleraine Magistrates Court via video link from Magilligan Prison where he is currently a serving prisoner.

Hazlett pleaded guilty to being disorderly at the Causeway Hospital, Coleraine, on April 30 this year.

The court heard Hazlett was disruptive at the Causeway Hospital and was being abusive to staff and said: “F--k off I will do what I f--king want”. He then said: “I will spit on your mother’s grave” before making comments of a sexual nature and was disorderly for around half an hour.

A defence solicitor said his client was at the hospital because he was the victim of a very vicious assault and with alcohol taken his emotions were running high. The lawyer said such behaviour in a hospital could never be condoned.

At the same court, Patrick James Anthony Farren (54), of Stoneburn Place, Londonderry, admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour at the Causeway Hospital on April 15 this year and was also jailed for three months.

A prosecutor said he was being abusive to staff and “spitting all over the ward” and refusing treatment. He smelt of drink and headbutted a door when being removed by police. District Judge McNally said it was “appalling behaviour” and said the courts will not tolerate that type of behaviour in hospitals.
