Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 explodes into life

LONDONDERRY UK City of Culture in 2013 exploded into life on New Year’s Eve with a spectacular fireworks and pyrotechnics display at exactly 20:13.

Thousands of well wishers joined the celebrations along the River Foyle among them Mayor, Kevin Campbell.

He said: “The city celebrations marked a perfect moment to mark the arrival of 2013 and to look forward to what will be a fantastic cultural year for the city and region. “It’s our time to tell a new story and to showcase the best of local and international talent while marking the beginning of new opportunities for the city. It is with great pride that I extend best wishes to everyone for 2013 and wish you all a very peaceful and prosperous year in 2013”.

Martin Bradley, Chairperson of Culture Company said: “The way that Derry-Londonderry has come together as a team to ensure that the full potential of 2013 is realised has been truly remarkable and will ensure the maximum possible benefits for all the people of the city.
