Gregor, who is studying journalism at the West of Scotland university, heard of the unfolding tragedy at George Square and called at the scene.

He said: “There is quite a bit of shock here. The road has been closed off and there are quite a few people around.”

He said the area had been very busy on the ‘doorstep of Christmas with many people out for meals or shopping.

He went on: “City traffic is now in lockdown and there are six people dead. There’s a big green tent here and the talk is that it is being used to house those who have passed away.

“Rumour has it that the driver of the lorry had apparently took a heart attack.”

George Square, in which the accident happened, is currently hosting an ice rink and Christmas events for families and children.

“There were a lot of young children about,” Gregor reported.

The square is just off one of Glasgow’s busiest shopping streets and close to one of its main railway stations so, Gregor said, it sees a lot of footfall.
