It’s a Mickey Mouse job for Friends’ pupils

Adam Gregg and Daniel Magennis, 16, flew to Paris on Friday to embark on a magical trip to Disneyland where they will be spending their week.An opportunity which is a childhood dream come true for teenagers everywhere.

Both boys study French as one of their AS Level subjects and are eager to make use of their knowledge and improve their confidence with the language during their work experience, as well as finding out more about the Disney park.

“It was great to learn about the history of the company as we work with the people who ensure it’s future,” said Adam.

Adam, who also studies Spanish, History and Maths, added, “We’re looking forward to working within the Disneyland Park and seeing how the work backstage transfers to the success.”

The two boys have been studying French at Friends’ School for five years and their enthusiasm for the language has grown.

Each year two year thirteen pupils from Friends’ get the chance to go to Eurodisney for work experience. This year Adam and Daniel were the lucky two.

After working with Mrs Archbold and sorting out some contracts, they finalised their placements, had their passports on hand and made their way to Paris.

Daniel, who also studies History, Politics and Spanish, would like to continue with a joint honours in French and Spanish at University and both boys would prefer a job in which they can make use of their languages.

“Working abroad is a definite,” said Daniel,“Having a work placement abroad has allowed us to see the uses of languages in an international company with the staff able to switch between French and English mid-sentence.”

While most pupils have stayed close to home spending their work experience week in local hospitals and dental surgeries, many pupils have used the opportunity to travel somewhere new. Ellen Esler and Sara McClements also made their way to Paris to work for CSC IT company and others have travelled as far as Belgium and Brussels to experience working life around the world.
