Have your say on policing issues

THE Chairman of Newtownabbey District Policing Partnership, councillor Fraser Agnew, is appealing to everyone who receives a copy of the Northern Ireland Policing Board's public survey on policing to complete and return the questionnaire by March 12.

Approximately 3,000 copies of the questionnaire were due to drop through letterboxes across the borough this week.

Councillor Agnew commented: “It is important that the community has its say on policing so that the DPP can seek to ensure that the borough has the best policing service it can possibly get.

“The results of this survey, along with other consultation exercises the DPP conducts, will help us to establish what the community feel are the local policing priorities for the borough. Ultimately the outcomes will be of great help when the DPP sits down with the PSNI District Commander to set the targets and objectives for the year ahead.

“The survey will also tell us what the community feel about the performance of the police in the borough.”

One in 10 households were due to receive the questionnaire, which is designed to assess community views on a range of issues relating to the delivery of policing in Newtownabbey. For the first time the survey will also give local people the opportunity to have a say in how policing is being delivered at a neighbourhood level.

The results of the survey are due to be presented to Newtownabbey DPP at the end of June. Councillor Agnew stressed that in addition to making the results available to the Times, anyone who would like to request a copy of them will be able to do so by contacting the DPP Manager at Mossley Mill.
