Game of Thrones’ Ballycastle sound man wins Emmy

Sound engineer Ronan Hill has repeated his 2012 success by gaining an Emmy for outstanding sound mixing for a drama.

The popular Ballycastle man won for sound engineer in the world wide smash, Game of Thrones.

Ronan Hill from Ballycastle and Carla Stronge both won creative Emmy awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Ronan Hill and Carla from Belfast were rewarded in separate categories for their work in the show.

Ronan, who previously won in 2012, received his second Emmy award for outstanding sound mixing for a drama. It was for the Game of Thrones episode ‘Hardhome’.

Carla, a born and bred Northern Irish casting director based in Belfast, won her first Emmy for outstanding casting for a drama for her work on the programme.

Saturday night’s ceremony is a precursor to the main Emmy awards on September 20.

Game of Thrones won eight prizes in the creative Emmys as cast and crew film the sixth season of the fantasy series in Northern Ireland at the moment.

The programme is expected to win a number of prizes at the main Emmy ceremony.

Ballycastle Independent Councillor Padraig McShane described the win as “extremely pleasing for the town”.

“We have seen a host of awards from the Hill brothers on stage, screen and the technical aspect of the arts. “They have delivered a great deal of prestige and the local community are extremely proud of their achievements.

“Ronan’s second award for sound on Game of Thrones is a measure of his technical ability and is reflected in the popularity of the show.

“On behalf of the local community I’d like to say how appreciative we are while extending our congratulations”.
