Fun day tribute to young Ben

The family of little Ben Murphy, who lost his battle with a rare blood disorder last year, is holding a family fun day on Saturday to raise funds in memory of their loved one.

In 2013, five year old Ben was diagnosed with a disorder of the immune system called Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Sadly The Lisburn lad passed away in August last year at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

To mark the first anniversary of Ben’s passing, the Murphy family have decided to raise money for the Histio Fund Foundation, which raises awareness and helps to fund medical research, in his honour.

“As we approach his first anniversary, Ben’s Mum Linda, myself and a few other family members are organising two fundraising events for Saturday August 1,” explained Christine Murphy.

“The aim of these events is to celebrate Ben’s life and make his anniversary a more positive experience, and most importantly to raise much needed funds for the Histio Fund - the charity which supports those affected by this condition and their families.

“We are holding a family fun day on the afternoon of August 1 at Lisnargarvey High School.

Activities at the family fun day will include a bouncy castle, Go Carting track, penalty shoot out, soft play area, face painters and we will even have some Disney characters in attendance.

“We will hopefully be holding a bake sale at the fun day, as well as a barbecue.

“Domino’s Pizza have also kindly agreed to provide pizzas for everyone to enjoy on the day.

“In the evening we will be holding an event in Hagues Bar, Lisburn.

“There will be live music, a waxing station, for any males who fancy their chances against the pain of the wax pot, and predominately a raffle - where we will be asking all those in attendance to buy raffle tickets.”

The fun day at Lisnagarvey High School runs from 12noon until 4pm and the evening at Hagues Bar begins at 8pm, with the first band on stage at 8.15pm.

Everyone will be made very welcome at both of Saturday’s events.

“Everyone is welcome to come along,” added Christine.

“The more the merrier.”
