Free training for Community Groups

THE community and voluntary groups of Moyle are being offered the opportunity to take part in a number of forthcoming training workshops, all of which will be free of charge to participants.

The free training programme, for members of community groups in the Moyle District Council area, was organised following a recent training needs survey carried out by Moyle District Council.

Focusing on a number of key areas that groups felt they would most benefit from receiving training in, the subject areas include: Emergency First Aid; Child Protection; Fundraising; Applying for Funding and Managing Finances.

Each course and workshop will take place in Moyle District Council’s offices at Sheskburn House, Ballycastle and begins on the evening of Tuesday 16th March with a 2-hour ‘Managing Finances for Community Groups’ workshop. Delivered by NICVA (Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action) this workshop will provide an introduction to managing finances and will tackle issues like understanding costs, setting and working to budgets and cash flow management.

On Saturday 20th March 2010, St. John Ambulance will provide their 6-hour accredited ‘Emergency First Aid’ course concentrating on life saving techniques and emergency first aid situations. This very important course will help participants understand how to manage incidents and take care of an unconscious casualty. It also covers resuscitation, shock, disorders of the airway and control of bleeding.

Marie-Louise McClarey, who is well known for her extensive experience and work in Moyle’s One Stop Shop will deliver the next two evening workshops on ‘Fundraising’ and ‘Applying for Funding’ on Tuesday 23rd March and Tuesday 30th March respectively. These 2-hour workshops will look at issues around fundraising for community activities and applying for funding, with useful tips and guidance for groups on making grant applications.

The final training will take place over Tuesday 11th, 18th and 25th May 2010, when NEELB Youth Service will deliver their accredited Child Protection Training over three evening sessions. This 9-hour ‘Certificate in Child Protection’ course will cover policies, procedures, recruitment and selection, codes of conduct, supervision and role of designated officer.
