Flags and emblems ‘audit’ findings to be presented

RENOWNED for it’s work ‘across the divide’ St Columb’s Park House will launch the ‘Flags Audit and Household Survey 2011’ on two dates later this month in two separate venues.

The first will be at 2pm on Monday, May 23, at St Columbs Park House, and the second on Friday, May 27, at Strabane District Council at 10am

As Director Brian Dougherty said: “This project is a follow on from our 2007 report and has been expanded to include communities in Counties Londonderry and Tyrone. In partnership with the respective community associations we have conducted extensive household surveys in Leafair Park, Drumahoe, Newbuildings, Newtownstewart and Donemana.

“The aim of the research is to ascertain public attitudes in these communities towards flags and emblems and provide a tool that will aid in facilitation, mediation and advice to those communities wishing to promote an agreed flags and emblems protocol,” he said.

“The launch will provide the opportunity for first sight of the findings as well as suggested recommendations. We hope the reports will provide a useful tool for the communities as an honest reflection of local opinion”.

Those interested in attend should contact the office at 028 7134 3080.

As part of the Negotiating Change programme St Columb’s Park House established that there is a need for more infrastructural support and resources for communities who wish to look at Flags, emblems and murals within their own areas.
