Sport Changes Life has been awarded £15,000 to extend for a further three months the programme that engages young people.

Supported by the International Fund for Ireland, the eHoops project has assisted more than 80 young participants in Carrickfergus and Greenisland in a range of mentoring activities and accredited training delivered in partnership with Ulster University.

The new award is part of an International Fund for Ireland announcement of £590,000 assistance to projects to address contentious issues and reduce community tensions in Northern Ireland and the southern border counties.

Welcoming the support, a Sport Changes Life statement explained: “This EHOOPS project has developed from its predecessors and has assisted more than 40% of those participants who are seeking to gain access to work and enter back into education.

“Over the past year we have witnessed the building of relationships between young people, communities and the PSNI. The International Fund for Ireland has continued its support of the programme and has awarded an additional three month funding for Sport Changes Life to continue with the Peace Impact Programme in Carrickfergus.

“Our aim is to engage with 15-20 young people in the Eden area that will benefit from the mentoring and personal development initiatives, whilst raising their aspirations through the use of sport.”
