At first it was felt that the subject matter was a slight deviation from the norm and this proved to be right but very pleasantly so.

The speaker, Bruce Batten who is a professional lecturer on matters botanical, held the audience for an hour without interruption, so thorough and interesting was his subject ‘The History & Heritage of Antrim Castle Gardens’. His accompanying PowerPoint presentation covered the history of, not only, Antrim but the history of gardening in Europe, Britain and Ireland throughout the centuries culminating in the introduction of gardening tastes and techniques to the stately homes of Ireland and , of course, Antrim. He revealed that ‘Antrim Castle Gardens’ is one of the few remaining examples of a certain classical style and he strongly recommended that anyone genuinely interested should pay them a visit.

The group usually meets on the third Monday of each month at 11am.
