Dungannon man accused of false imprisonment of a woman and suppling heroin

Appearing via video link for a bail application hearing at East Tyrone Magistrate’s Court was Dominic McGrath, 25, from Windmill Drive.

He stands accused of seven offences on March 28 including false imprisonment of a woman, GBH with intent, and supplying heroin.

Outlining police opposition to bail, a constable from the PSNI told the court that McGrath had been released from HMP Maghaberry on April 21 but had failed to attend his bail address.

A report from the member of the public on a bus stated that they had overheard him saying that he would burn a female’s house and that he would be back in prison the next day.

He handed himself into police on April 25.

“We believe that there is a real risk that he will commit further offences - he has committed offences on five separate occasions while on bail (in the past),” she told the court.

A solicitor for the defendant said that he had spoken to the Simon Community and stated that they remained able to house him.

District Judge John Meehan refused bail on the grounds that the defendant posed to great a risk of re-offending.

He adjourned the case until May 25.
