DPP publishes 2010 Public Consultation Survey results

The survey was conducted by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency’s (NISRA) Central Survey Unit and asked householders, among other things, to prioritise the local policing issues that concern them most.

The local results from the 15,675 responses will be used by the DPP to establish local policing priorities and set objectives for the PSNI through the Local Policing Plan.

Speaking about the results, Chair of Ballymoney DPP, Cllr Tom McKeown said: “DPPs act as a platform for communities to have a say on how their local area should be policed and to help ensure communities get the kind of policing service they need and want.

“This kind of consultation is one of the ways we gather information about policing issues from the people in our communities and how we go about setting objectives to help shape policing in the Ballymoney Borough area.”

Looking at the overall results across Northern Ireland, Cllr Tom McKeown continued: “Most respondents (69%) had heard of DPPs and 70% of them were prepared to contact their local DPP regarding local policing which is encouraging for DPPs as they continue to engage with local people and the police to prevent crime and make communities safer.

“We know local people want to access a good policing service; and there is definitely more work to be done in encouraging local people to work with the police to tackle crime. We all have a role in helping to make our community safer and we will continue to work in partnership with the police and other key stakeholders to achieve this.”
