DOG OWNERS: You have been warned!

The Mayor said, “This campaign is a reminder to all dog owners and walkers of their responsibility to pick up after their dogs and not to leave an unsightly mess on public footpaths.

“It is important not only to bag dog foul but also to place it in any Council bin, or take it home, and not to leave the bag on the ground. If members of the public leave dog foul or a bag with dog foul behind they will be subject to a fixed penalty of £80.

“I encourage all residents and visitors to the Borough to clean up after their dog to keep the Borough clean of dog foul for everyone.”

In efforts to prevent dog fouling incidents, Council’s Dog Wardens have identified heavily fouled local streets and areas for additional patrols.

They are: North Road and Headlands Avenue, Ballymoney; Moyle Road and Atlantic Avenue, Ballycastle; Station Road Dungiven, Scroggy Road Limavady, Girona Avenue Portrush and Mountsandel Road Coleraine. Signage will be erected to identify areas targeted.

Incidents of dog fouling in these areas will be recorded over four weeks and dog walkers are invited to support Council by being responsible and picking up dog foul to prevent littering the Borough.
