Dog cruelty accused have bail extended

Two men accused of burning a Moira family’s dog to death were granted continuing bail at Craigavon Crown Court on Friday.

Jamie Downey (23), Chestnut Hall Avenue, and Andrew Richard Stewart (22), Wellington Parks, both Moira, are charged with causing unnecessary suffering to border collie Cody on August 26, 2012.

The case was adjourned until May 30 to allow extended time for defence statements to be prepared in the case of Stewart.

The three-year-old dog suffered serious injuries after it was doused with flammable liquid and set alight in the Maghaberry Road area.

Its injuries were so severe it had to be put down. The attack provoked widespread outrage.
