Cllr McFlynn said the road now posed a serious safety risk.

“Local residents have repeatedly expressed their concerns about the condition of the road and I have raised this issue with Transport NI over recent weeks,” said the councillor.

“Parts of the road are in very poor condition and there are serious concerns about road safety as a result. This is a busy road and many drivers use this route to bypass Magherafelt.

“Transport NI have carried out some small repairs but with winter months approaching the condition of the road could deteriorate very quickly.

“Patsy McGlone MLA has also been in contact with Transport NI and was informed that there might be money for resurfacing early next year.”

Cllr McFlynn added: “Everyone understands that Transport NI have a limited budget at present to carry out repairs, but it is very important that all rural roads are maintained to a high standard to protect drivers and local residents.

“I will continue to lobby Transport NI to ensure that resurfacing work is scheduled for the Loup Moneymore Road as soon as possible.”
