Defendant made up story about former girlfriend

Don Teggart, Gilford Road, Portadown, admitted causing wasteful employment of police time by making a false report on February 15 this year.

He was given a conditional discharge for two years.

The court heard that on February 18 police received a report of an incident which happened on February 15 when the defendant said that a person known to him had driven at him.

Teggart said he had to move out of the way to avoid being hit.

Police investigated the complaint and found it was completely false. Teggart had made it up against an ex-partner.

A solicitor representing the defendant said Teggart was leaving a takeaway restaurant when he heard the high revs of a car and it was his ex-partner’s car.

District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry, said it was a case where a girl had thrown the defendant over and Teggart had told ‘plain simple lies’.

Bringing the defendant into court Judge Perry told him he had ‘gone to the police and told them a pack of lies’.

Teggart agreed and Judge Perry added, “Don’t do it again.”
