Taxis are targeted by stone thowers at flyover

Police received a report of a brick thrown at a taxi as it passed the primary school near Moss Park at around 10.15pm on March 4.

A similar report was received of youths throwing stones from the flyover on Leckey Road at around 10pm on March 16.

“Officers are investigating these reports and are appealing for information or for anyone who can identify the youths involved to contact police by calling the new non-emergency number 101,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Independent Workers Union (taxi division) has appealed for parents to stay abreast of where their children are.

“I have been told that young people from eight to 13 are responsible for these attacks. Not only are they damaging vehicles, which costs money to repair, but they are putting the lives of drivers and their passengers at risk,” said Tom King.
