PSNI issue incendiary device warning

Police have issued advice to retailers, business owners and retail parks in the Foyle area to check their premises regularly for incendiary devices.

Foyle Area Commander, Chief Inspector Jon Burrows urged retailers to be vigilant, particularly in the run up to Christmas and New Year.

”It is good business practice to check your premises regularly for anything suspicious. This will help protect your staff, customers and business all year round.

“Incendiary devices can be left anywhere that can catch fire easily, such as in garments, soft furnishings and upholstery. They have the potential to destroy property and take human life.

“If something looks out of place, or even just raises concern, contact police immediately. Never touch or attempt to move any suspicious looking objects.

“We are also advising business owners and managers to review security measures and check premises thoroughly both during and after trading. An extra few minutes could make the difference - vigilance is the key,” Chief Inspector Burrows said.

Police will be increasing patrols in shopping areas and car parks and are asking anyone if they notice suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles they should contact police immediately.
