Man (19) charged with causing unnecessary suffering to livestock

A teenager accused of stealing goats and sheep from the Gilford area has been charged with five offences, including causing unnecessary suffering to farm animals.

The 19-year-old is due to appear before Newry Magristrates’ Court today (Friday).

Lambs, sheep, goats and a ram were taken from properties from early December in six separate incidents.

The man faces additional charges of theft, transferring criminal property, concealing criminal property, and concealing criminal property.

Lambs were stolen from Loughbrickland on Tuesday in the latest theft spree which started in early December.

Goats were stolen from Scarva Road, Gilford on December 5 while a ram was taken from Poyntzpass Road, Loughbrickland on the same day.

Sheep were stolen from Greenan Road, Poyntzpass on December 10 while sheep were taken from two properties at Drumhorc Road and Tullyllish Road, Gilford on January 8.

The charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
