The Limavady Neighbourhood Police said criminal gangs may be “marking addresses” where pedigree dogs are kept by using a chalk mark on a fence or wall at the home. The police warning notes that crooks may return to locate the dogs and steal them.

A statement issued by Limavady PSNI reads: “PSNI have received information from the public in relation to the theft of dogs.

“It is believed that crime gangs may be marking addresses that they believe pedigree dogs are kept at.

“This may be done by means of a chalk mark on the fence or the wall of the address. Once the addresses have been scouted any member of the group could return and locate the dogs.

“So be vigilant should you see any marks on your wall or fence. Please pass to friends, family and fellow pet owners.”
