Council welcomes Shadow Secretary of State to Lisburn

Mr Coaker was welcomed by the Mayor, Alderman William Leathem and Chief Executive of Lisburn City Council, Mr Norman Davidson.

The Shadow Secretary of State was given a tour of Lagan Valley Island and met Elected Members of Council and local business representatives.

An informal meeting was held in the Council Chamber and the Director of Environmental Services at Lisburn City Council, Mr Colin McClintock, delivered a presentation on proposed major development projects in the City, focussing on investment, growth and capital developments, including the MasterPlan for Lisburn City Centre which will see the City Centre revitalised as part of the Council’s ongoing urban regeneration plans.

Mr Coaker was also appraised of the Council’s disappointment at recent comments by the Minister of the Environment, Alex Attwood about the proposals for development of the Sprucefield Regional Shopping Centre.

The Mayor said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Coaker to the Council and I would like to extend my thanks to Jeffrey Donaldson, MP, who was extremely helpful in organising the visit. We welcomed the opportunity to update Mr Coaker on what is happening in Lisburn City including developments, future plans and our award of City of Sport status for 2013. I would like to thank Mr McClintock for providing a presentation on the Council’s vision and continuing plans for Lisburn.”
