Council project aims to improve Ballygally views

The small area of council-owned land opposite Ballygally Hall – which was once the site of public toilets in the village – is to be redeveloped thanks to a funding boost from the Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust (CCGHT) and Ballygally Community Development Group (BCDG).

The work will involve the removal an existing solid concrete wall – which acts as a barrier to views across the Irish Sea – to be replaced by balustrade and engraved glass panelling.

The project is estimated to cost a total of £19,600, with £6,200 worth of funding being provided by CCGHT and a further £1,400 contributed by BCDG – leaving a cost to the local authority of £12,000.

The content and design of the engraved glass has not yet been determined, but may include items such as the Antrim Coast and Glens logo, decorative images such as shells or fish, and literary quotations.

Planning permission is not required and Roads Service has indicated it has no objection to the project.
