Council invests £28k in community events

The council makes financial contributions to community organisations regularly but on Friday launched the Strategic Partnership Events which will take place over the summer months.

The council is keen on promoting the concept of partnership working and to this end is investing approximately £28,000, shared across seven successful applicants, namely Aughintober Regeneration, Aughnacloy Race Committee, Blood Sweat & Tears, Fivemiletown District Cultural & Sports Association, Killyman & District Cultural Group, O’Neill Country Historical Society and The Upbeat Agency.

The value of partnership working was emphasised by the Mayor at the media launch as he stated, “It is organisations such as those represented today that assist Council in fulfilling its vision for the Borough to make it a place where people want to live, work and invest in now and in the future. “We greatly value too, that it is people like yourselves, working voluntarily that make both the organisation and the events a success story.

“Funded through the Community Development programme these events serve to promote, entertain and engage both the local community and visitors in positive activity.”

Community Development Manager Philip Clarke stated, “The events are specific to a range of themes based on the remit of delivery of Council within its Corporate Plan. The key criterion for strategic events are to: support good relations; develop cultural diversity and the arts; support the regeneration of the Borough; attract increased visitors and spend to the Borough and regional promotion of the Borough.”
