Cookstown hatchet man ‘had drank Buckfast’

A Cookstown man who attacked the front door of a property with a hatchet after drinking a couple of glasses of Buckfast, has been given a three month prison term.

Craig Watterson, 22, from Princess Avenue, was also given three months for possessing counterfeit currency at a bar in the town.

A prosecutor told Dungannon Court that on April 5 past, police were called to Union Place in Cookstown following a report that Watterson had hit the front door of a property a number of times with a hatchet.

Watterson was also heard to shout: “You think you are a hard man!”

In the second incident, police were called to Mulligan’s Bar on October 24 after staff reported two males had tendered suspected counterfeit currency.

When questioned about bank notes found in his jeans, Watterson told police: “I got my bureau today”. He will serve a total of six months.
