Community invited to view proposals for Becon project to generate energy from waste facility

THE Becon Consortium, which would built the proposed incinerator in Mallusk if it get the go ahead has invited the public to view its plans at a series of information events.

Prior to the submission of a formal planning application in the autumn the Becon Consortium, backed by leading European energy company E.ON Energy from Waste, is undertaking a programme of extensive public consultation.

This is designed to explain the proposals in detail, answer questions and provide the public and other stakeholders with an opportunity to provide their feedback.

The Becon Consortium, in response to the ongoing procurement by Arc21, the umbrella waste group representing 11 councils in the east of Northern Ireland, has said the incinerator plan would help those councils meet their EU landfill diversion targets and manage waste in a more sustainable way.

An information session was scheduled for Wednesday (March 20) and Thursday (March 21) in Mossley Mill between 11am and 7pm.

Another session will take place in the Holiday Inn Express in Antrim on March 25 and March 26, again between 11am and 7pm on both days.

The final information event will be held in the Ramada Encore in St Anne’s Square, Belfast on March 27 and March 28.

To support the consultation programme, a project website has been launched - www.becon.co.uk.

The Project remains subject to the successful conclusion of separate public procurement and planning processes.
