Twenty local Coca-Cola staff have secured volunteer places at this summer's World Police and Fire Games. The Lisburn based company is a key WPFG sponsor and is specifically backing the Volunteer Programme. Staff from a range of departments will join 'Team 2013' and celebrating the news are (from left) Connor McCready, Zoe Cunningham, Gary Stewart and Nicola Gregg.

Moira girls Zoe Cunningham (centre) and Nicci Gregg (right) who both work in communications for Coca-Cola are delighted to be part of Team 2013.

IOI Communications Manager Zoe said she was really excited to be volunteering for such a “fantastic” community event.

“I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to experience the spirit of the Games in Northern Ireland as part of Team 2013,” she said.

Meanwhile, communications co-ordinator at Coca-Cola, Nicci, commented, “The Games are sure to be a brilliant event which will bring the whole community together. I’m excited to be part of this historic summer for Northern Ireland.”

Following an interview selection process involving thousands of volunteer applicants, Games organisers through ‘Volunteer Now’ are contacting applicants during May and June as part of a phased programme of role matching and allocation of roles.

A proactive recruitment campaign launched in September resulted in a record number of volunteer applicants signing up, while the selection and interview phase welcomed people from every district council region in Northern Ireland as well as applicants from Dublin, Glasgow, Birmingham and London.

As momentum continues to build ahead of the Games, which get underway at the King’s Hall on 1 August 2013, John Tully, WPFG Chief Executive, said, “Following a strong campaign combined with grass roots engagement with local communities and an extensive “VolunTour” roadshow, initial analysis has indicated a very representative range of people in terms of age, gender and disability.

“It’s clear that all volunteer applicants are looking forward to making their individual contribution to help ensure that the 2013 Games are memorable, highly successful and the friendliest Games ever.”
