Christian businessman speaks of his heroes

THE inaugural meeting of the Men's Fellowship in Dervock Reformed Presbyterian Church took place last week in the church hall. The guest speaker was Mr Norman Lynas, Managing Director of Lynas Frozen Foods. Norman gave an overview of his life-his upbringing, his conversion to Christ, his refocusing on priorities as a follower of a living Saviour and the different aspects of Christian work that he has been privileged to support and be involved in.

Referring to his heroes Norman pointed to the formative influence of his father who never gave up in the face of difficulties or hardship and who had the resolve and commitment to start the family business. His wife also had made, and continues to make, a strong impact upon him and throughout their marriage has proved a helpmate in every way. Above all, he emphasised how Christ, the living Saviour, whose indwelling presence and power he looks to every day, enabled to him practice integrity in business and to seek to honour God in daily life.

What came across very strongly was Norman’s desire help young people. In a day when they can be so easily lead into drug and alcohol addiction he was concerned that they hear of Christ and be trained for Christian service. He encouraged any of the men present, who perhaps were troubled over a wayward son or daughter, to love and pray for him/her and not to give up hope of their life being turned around.

He challenged the men not to slack off as they grew older and not be afraid to start something new. He began the “Exodus Project” when in his mid-fifties- a centre where young people can go to relax and enjoy them-selves and where their can be helped to grow as Christians and go out into aspects of Christian work. He is also heavily involved in Franklin Graham’s ministry at home and overseas. He exhorted the men to mentor some young person and to pass their knowledge and experience to others.

The next meeting of the Men’s Fellowship will take place on Tuesday 13th April at 8.00pm in the church hall.
