Change of direction over Magilligan

North Antrim DUP MLA mervyn storey has welcomed a statement to the assembly today confirming a change of direction by the Justice Minister regarding the future of Magilligan Prison.

Mervyn Storey said: “Along with my DUP colleagues we have been focused in ensuring that the case for the retention of Magilligan Prison has been centre stage of our work over the last number of years. I would pay particular thanks to Mr Gregory Campbell MP for the area in his unstinting work in making the case for the prison.

“Today in the Assembly I also asked the Justice Minister to also ensure that prison officers are provided for in any new provision at Magilligan. Their needs also need to be catered for along with those who are prisoners.

“This good news today’s makes economic sense and should I trust mean the ending of uncertainty for many people.”
