Causeway figures high on the great British Bucket List

Ever since the film The Bucket List the theme of which centred on the wish-list of two dying men, Jack Nicholas and Morgan Freeman, many have followed suit not necessarily because the Grim Reaper could be soon calling but something to do in retirement.

Fulfilling dreams and ambitions might be dictated by the individuals bank balance, but that doesn’t prevent keeping the dream alive.

The Daily Mail newspaper carried out a survey of 1000 British adults and the most popular answer, somewhat surprisingly, was eating fish and chips on a seaside pier. Mortons Fish and Chip shop in Ballycastle might have been the choice of some given its recognition on a national level.

The poll was carried out by search engine Ask Jeeves and revealed that the favourite homegrown activities range from the cultural to the culinary and sporting, with plenty of sight-seeing thrown in for good measure.

Many of the choices were of a simple nature but what caught the eye came in at number four which again highlighted Northern Ireland’s most popular attraction – The Giant’s Causeway.

The Causeway Visitor Centre was recently rated as a five-star experience for tourists. The five-star accreditation was awarded under a new NITB scheme designed to provide visitors with quality grading information on Northern Ireland’s tourist attractions.

And recently this month top tour operators from Great Britain, the USA, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark visited Ballintoy and the North Antrim Coast as part of a fact-finding trip to the Causeway Coast and Northern Ireland.

Flown in by Tourism Ireland to participate in the annual Meet the Buyer workshop, which is taking place in the Lough Erne resort in Fermanagh this week, the tour operators enjoyed a pre-workshop tour which was themed around Northern Ireland’s movie locations.

Number 25 on the list was a visit to a distillery – Bushmills would be the obvious choice which would tie in with a visit to the famous stones!
