Lisburn Councillor John Palmer was asked to address the issue of poor signage by concerned business people who say people unfamiliar with the village are unaware of the car park due to poor signage.

He explained: “I was contacted by a local trader about the poor signage the village directing motorists to the local car park and also the one hour limited waiting time in Main Street, Moira.

“After carrying out a survey myself I did find the signage to be poorly placed and also those using the car park were not aware of the over flow facility.”

Mr Palmer says he spoke with a Department for Regional Development (DRD) official earlier this year who agreed to have a survey conducted to establish what extra signage is needed.

Mr Palmer said the DRD official explained that the “one hour on street parking was adequate given that the main car park was a free car park and with the over flow facility, there was adequate space to cope with parking demand.

“I will be contacting the DRD in the near future to ask that the signage be installed as soon as possible to coincide with the completion of the major works scheme being undertaken in the Moira Demesne.”

A DRD spokesperson said: “Roads Service is aware of the requirement for additional signage in Moira. Councillor Palmer was informed in February that the work would be carried out during the 2014/15 financial year. This is still the case.”
