Bushvalley choirs hit the 'right note'

THIS year saw yet another very busy musical schedule at Bushvalley Primary School as preparations began for participation at this year's music festival in Coleraine.

The Primary 3 and 4 choir performed a lulling rendition of "Dreams" followed by own choice piece "Raindrops And Roses" from "The Sound of Music". The adjudicator remarked on how the children focused throughout the song, keeping an eye on their conductor, all-the-while, singing tunefully. The children won their class against Castleroe Primary to win the Challenge Cup.

Children from Primary 2 performed a delightful rendition of "Jungle Boogie" in the open action song category. The children performed magnificently and won over the audience within seconds, receiving enthusiastic praise from the adjudicator, Steve Roberts who insisted that all parents and supporters in the hall stand up and perform a verse from the action song together.

The children left the competition with the Challenge Cup for the Open Action Song class. The children in the Key Stage 2 choir faced perhaps the most oppressive competition of the three choirs entered, having to compete against five other schools for the J. Taylor Challenge Cup for the Open Rural Choirs' class.

The children opened with a rousing rendition of "You Raise Me Up" performed in two-part harmony, followed by a bouncy performance of "High Hopes". Overall, the Key Stage 2 choir came third in their class with Moneymore Primary taking first place and Damhead Primary taking second place.

Huge congratulations also to our soloists who out-did themselves. Thomas Jamison took second place and Jonathan Elder took third in the Rural Children's solo (6 & 7 years). Claire Ramsay also achieved second place in the Girls' Open Solo class. Thomas also received the Ashley Scott Special Award from the Music Festival. Many thanks also to the numerous parents who came and supported the children at the festival.
