Band parade in town marks Somme and remembers the 36th Ulster Division

A band parade to commemorate the !00th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and dedicate an obelisk in memory of the 36th Ulster Division will take place in Portadown on Saturday evening,

Those taking part are asked to assemble at Carrickblacker at 6.30pm.

The parade is being organised by Portadown Unionist Centenary Committee.

The notified outward route is Bachelors Walk, Carrickblacker Road, Edenderry, Bridge Street, High Street, Market Street, Armagh Road, Jervis Street, Margaret Street, Epworth Methodist Church, Corcrain Road, West Street, High Street, Market Street, Castle Street, Pleasure Gardens Entrance and Obelisk area opposite the War Memorial.

Participants are asked not to drink alcohol before or during the parade.

Bands notified to be taking part are: Pride of the Raven Flute Band, Portadown Defenders Flute Band, Portadown True Blues Flute Band, Cookstown Sons of William Flute Band, City of Belfast Fife & Drums and Glenmavis Flute Band.

Up to 2,000 participants are expected to take part.
