Approval for treatment works upgrade

PLANNERS have approved plans for an upgrading of the Ballycastle Wastewater Treatment Works in the Sheskburn Avenue area of the town.

The applicants are NI Water and they applied for the upgrading of the works on the ‘existing site plus additional adjoining land to provide a new wastewater treatment process to include tanks and kiosks and utilise existing building’.

There had been two letters of objection.

Independent councillor Padraig McShane welcomed the decision but he also remarked that a letter from a Stormont Minister on the subject to Moyle Council had been “quite sharp and I didn’t see the need for that tone.”

Independent councillor Seamus Blaney said a landowner in the area “will still be taking this further even though it is passed tonight”.
