Straid Hill Plantation was used as the backdrop for several scenes in series three, episode two of the HBO fantasy drama, which is watched by millions of people around the world.

Filming at the plantation took place in July 2012 and featured Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).

Local businessman Sam Duncan, who has owned the site for 10 years, explained why he’s decided to sell around three acres of the ancient beech woodland.

“The place has just got too big for us and we just need to sell off part of the land to ease that burden,” he said.

“We have a wildlife sanctuary at the site - a long term environmental project protecting the local flora and fauna - so we want to be able to focus our time and energy on maintaining that.”

Located just off Irish Hill Road, the plantation overlooks the nearby village of Straid and the Six Mile Valley. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including foxes, badgers, frogs, newts, kestrels and buzzards.

The property, which is expected to go on the market next week, is being sold through Fred Ashton at local firm Abbey Real Estate.

“Whoever buys it, I would like to see it conserved and enhanced for the protection of the local wildlife,” Mr Duncan added.
