Alderman: Cut overgrown verges

UUP Alderman Mary Hamilton has called on the DoE Roads Service to find money in their budget to cut grass verges on the outskirts of Londonderry.

Mrs Hamilton said she was appalled by the state of the verges in the Ardmore and Curryfree areas, which were almost three feet high in places, totally obscuring sight lines at junctions.

“I know everyone is being terribly careful about their budgets, but this problem is particularly acute in Ardmore and Curryfree.

“I attended a barbecue at Curryfree on Friday evening and was horrified at the state of the roads. Weeds and grasses have grown out onto the road and up the banking, making it impossible to see if traffic is coming.

Residents and people attending the barbecue were telling me of near miss accidents where they had pulled out and almost collided with vehicles because they could not see as sight lines are totally obscured. The DoE must find money to clear these verges.”
