Ahoghill explosions: police operation could last until after lunchtime

Ahoghill residents who were evacuated following two explosions in the village in the early hours of this morning look set to remain unable to return to their homes until later today.

Police are advising that their operations in the Brookfield Gardens area could continue beyond lunch time today.

A number of residents were moved from their homes and taken to either the local community centre, or to family members’ homes following the explosions.

Emergency services were called to the estate at around 2am this morning.

Army Technical Officers and the PSNI are at the scene following two explosions at different addresses in the estate.

Damage was caused to the front of one of the houses but no one is believed to have been injured.

Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: “The policing operation is still ongoing in Ahoghill and it is envisaged that it may last beyond lunchtime today.
