The bombs exploded outside the homes of two men in the village’s Brookfield Gardens.

Police are appealing for information, with Chief Inspector Simon Ball stating the dangerous nature of the devices, particularly with having timers attached to them.

“The pipebombs were left outside the homes of two men and both devices had timers attached,” Chief Insp. Ball said.

He added: “Pipebombs can be deadly devices in their own right, but the use of the timers made them particularly dangerous for the community at large.

“Thankfully no one was injured as a result of the explosions. However, significant damage was caused to the front of one property in particular.

“While it too early to say if any paramilitary organisation or group was behind these incidents, we do not believe at this stage that the attack was motivated by sectarianism or racism.”

Chie Insp. Ball added: ““We are appealing for any information from anyone who may have saw suspicious activity in and around Ahoghill during the evening of Wednesday, September 9 or into the early hours of Thursday.

“Please call us on the 101 number if you can assist the investigation or you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
