24-hour rowing challenge for crossfit team

THE coast line of Northern Ireland is around 300km - and that’s the distance a local group are hoping to row to raise money for a cancer charity this Saturday.

A team from Crossfit Causeway, a gym located at Sperrin Business Park in Coleraine, have set themselves this challenge in a bid to raise money for Cancer Focus NI.

Paula Quigg, who is behind the challenge, is inviting Coleraine Times readers along to the 24-hour challenge.

“We would like as many people as possible to come along and help us meet this huge challenge.

“We’ll be rowing non-stop for 24 hours in a bid to cover a distance of 300km, so we’re inviting people of all ages and all fitness abilities along to join us.

“It doesn’t matter if you have never been on a rowing machine before, you’ll be doing your bit to help Cancer Focus NI. Our stronger rowers will be talking part in time trails to keep the pace and the excitement on the day high,” told Paula.

During the event, this Saturday, there will be crossfit workouts to try out during the day.

Crossfit is a fairly new fitness programme which is coach led and focuses on strength and conditioning.

Paula explains: “It’s an intense workout, it’s not about coming along and having a chat.

“We do bar-bell work and circuits - you could be working out beside the fittest person in the gym using the same equipment - so the atmosphere is great.

“We’ll be running crossfit workouts throughout the day of our challenge, so it’s a good chance to come along and try it out.”

The charity event will commence at 12noon this Saturday.
